Primarily as rivals the Ford F-series Medium Duty, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500 & 5500 is finally coming back to the commercial market. These Low-Cab Forward medium-duty trucks are designed in collaboration with Isuzu Motors Ltd. Although not a presentation, they were officially announced in September last year at the 2017 Texas State Fair. Serial production starts in the second part of this year, and the first official presentation will be in March 2018 Work Truck Show in Indianapolis. Overall, sales of the first models are expected just in 2019. It will also have a presentation at some of the autumn fairs of the car. In addition to Ford, it’s important to highlight the rivalry with the new RAM 4500 & 5500 models. Unfortunately, the fate of the new 2019 Chevrolet Kodiak HD model is still unknown.
Noticeable is a brand new grille, body-color bumpers and hood engine. Complete lighting is in LED technology, while front lights are taken from the Heavy Duty model. As for the interior, we expect leather seats, manual or automatic climate control, infotainment touch screen. Certainly, they will apply the most modern technologies.
Probably will offer HD and XD variants in both models. Provided with the Regular Cab and Crew Cab. The current models have a capacity of 3 or 7 seats. Although significant changes have been announced, as far as dimensions are concerned, there will probably be no major deviations. Also, the weight will probably be somewhat higher. We expect a maximum towing capacity of over 20,000 lbs (about 9100 kg), as well as a maximum payload greater than 13,000 lbs (about 5900 kg).
The drive will have rear wheels or all four wheels, combined with the 6-speed Alison 1000 automatic transmission. It is certain that it will have a 6.6-liter V8 Duramax turbo diesel engine. The production of this engine is likely to be 425 hp and 910 lb-ft (1234 Nm) of torque. The current HD models have 397 hp and 765 lb-ft (1037 Nm) of torque. We recall that the current commercial trucks have a 5.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine of 215 hp and 452 lb-ft (613 Nm) of torque. Of course, fuel consumption will be significantly higher. Also, mentioned is the Vortec V8 petrol engine, but it is unlikely to be offered.
Although there is no official information, we expect the starting price of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 4500 & 5500 of at least $ 40,000. In my opinion, it will probably cost about $ 43,000.
